ADD = Prison?
Estimates are that as many as 75% of the inmate population suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
Some are also afflicted by Trouette's syndrome and dyslexia, or even brain injuries.
In the majority of cases, these conditions are undiagnosed and untreated.
It is no wonder recidivism is so high.
We believe there is a causal link between prison and these misunderstood conditions.
Affected individuals often don't know why they don't fit in as others do.
Many resort to illicit drugs to help them feel normal.
Self-medication can lead to addiction, and addiction to crime to support the addiction.
Prison is the result.
Psalm 146:7 Prison Ministries
Psalm 146:7 Prison Ministries is a Christian ministry dedicated to educating prisoners and their families
to the fact that most prisoners are basically good people who are neither dumb nor intrinsically bad,
but who unknowingly suffer from undiagnosed learning disabilities. When these are properly diagnosed
and treated, these prisoners can become good, productive people, and stay out of prison for good.
William Sultzer began the ministry nearly 30 years ago. He discovered later in life (and after prison)
that he himself was dealing with the same brain differences that 75% of all inmates across America suffer
from, and then some! He wrote a book,
The Happy Prisoner, which teaches prisoners who suffer from ADD
how to deal with this condition and transform their lives. Thousands of inmates have already been
changed by the message in
The Happy Prisoner, and the understanding it brings.
Psalm 146:7
Who executes justice for the oppressed;
Who gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets the prisoners free.
